- Stiv Bators
It's Cold Outside [mp3]
-
A note-perfect cover of Ohio pop legends (and pre-Raspberries combo) The Choir. This is the kind of classic jangle that looked set to take over the airwaves in 1979, and all the more surprising coming from the singer of The Dead Boys. The b-side rules too.

- Sweet Jesus
Sindy Makes Believe [mp3]
-
Ethereal vocal, a great tune and driving drums all bathed in swirling guitar chaos -- what more could you ask for? Upbeat shoegaze pop from this mysterious 90s band with just a handful of singles to their credit.

- The Suncharms
Tranquil Day [mp3]
-
Smashing shoegaze pop from Sheffield. It seems like the early 90s were full of bands that put out a single or two with a few great noisy pop tunes, and The Suncharms were way up there in our book.

You Turn On My World [mp3]
-
Gorgeous fuzzed-out 1991 pop single that bears the influence of Teenage Fanclub, Eugene Kelly, and perhaps a little Dinosaur Jr. Still sounding sweet over fifteen years later.

- The Nightblooms
Never Dream At All [mp3]
-
Released in 1990 on Fierce, this Dutch band's second single still shocks with its baffling caterwaul. Buried in there somewhere is a delicate, almost folk, pop tune, but the layers of wtf noise make you dig hard to find it. Brilliant.

Heartbeat, It's A Lovebeat [mp3]
-
Melodramatic bubblegum with crazy phasing, pre-teen vocals and an immortal chorus. Amazing stuff.
